About Us

Laurie founded LBA Associates in 1996 to provide her clients with an experience base that includes:

  • 30 years of “lessons learned” on projects located across the U.S. – from Vermont to California and Alaska to Guam
  • Five-year service as an officer of SWANA’s International Board
  • Four terms on the Colorado Association for Recycling Board of Directors (2014 Board President, 2015-16 Past President)
  • Graduate degrees in both civil engineering and environmental policy
  • Numerous speaking and facilitation events
  • Member of the MSW Magazine Editorial Advisory Board

Laurie and LBA Associates has worked to help local and state organizations maximize their waste diversion potential despite an erratic economy and a wide-spread reliance on disposal-based waste management systems.  Recent project highlights include regional diversion strategies for Pitkin County/City of Aspen, the five-county region of the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments and the State or Wyoming; successful public processes for new city policy in Denver and Boulder; grant study facilitation for Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Routt and San Miguel Counties; and a recent rate study for the City of Durango.  While these projects represent only a portion of Laurie’s experience, they exemplify the breadth and depth of her skills, as they required:

  • Setting baseline and goal metrics
  • Pursuing regional, multi-organizational strategies
  • Facilitating effective stakeholder involvement and support
  • Framing and promoting “carrot” and “stick” policies
  • Conceptualizing facility designs and calculating costs
  • Estimating the potential for job creation, GHG reduction and other environmental benefits
  • Identifying workable public, private and non-profit roles and responsibilities
  • Finding appropriate funding solutions
  • Establishing a “plan of attack” for successful implementation

LBA Virtual Business Model

LBA Associates has successfully employed a “virtual” business model that builds a unique team from a network of outstanding professional associates on a project-by-project basis. This approach allows us to tailor our resources to best match every client’s need by committing the specific skills needed at the most cost-effective level – in other words, our clients get exactly what they need for expertise and skills – without paying to train under-qualified staff or keep high-end management billable.  Contact us to discuss the team we can create for you.
