Laurie and LBA Associates has worked to help local and state organizations maximize their waste diversion potential despite an erratic economy and a wide-spread reliance on disposal-based waste management systems. Recent project highlights include regional diversion strategies for Pitkin County/City of Aspen, the five-county region of the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments and the State or Wyoming; successful public processes for new city policy in Denver and Boulder; grant study facilitation for Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Routt and San Miguel Counties; and a recent rate study for the City of Durango. While these projects represent only a portion of Laurie’s experience, they exemplify the breadth and depth of her skills, as they required:
- Setting baseline and goal metrics
- Pursuing regional, multi-organizational strategies
- Facilitating effective stakeholder involvement and support
- Framing and promoting “carrot” and “stick” policies
- Conceptualizing facility designs and calculating costs
- Estimating the potential for job creation, GHG reduction and other environmental benefits
- Identifying workable public, private and non-profit roles and responsibilities
- Finding appropriate funding solutions
- Establishing a “plan of attack” for successful implementation
